Cassidy Announces $1.3 Million Grant for Coastal Restoration in Plaquemines Parish

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today announced the U.S. Department of Treasury (Treasury) Office of Gulf Coast Restoration is awarding a $1,258,917.50 million grant to Plaquemines Parish for the Bay Adams Headland Restoration and Marsh Creation project. The grant will support the planning, engineering, and design activities of the restoration and habitat creation project.

“Louisiana knows the importance of building a more resilient coastline,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This restoration protects Plaquemines Parish residents and wildlife from flooding and natural disaster.”

According to Treasury, the project will create approximately 35,000 feet of elevated barrier headland ridges, nourish approximately 2,000 acres of wetlands around Bay Adams, and establish approximately 500 acres of new marshes.
