Cassidy Commends House Movement on Ending Surprise Medical Bills

WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today released a statement in support of a House Energy and Commerce Committee’s vote to adopt an independent dispute resolution process as a backstop in their proposed House solution to end surprise medical billing. This solution is similar to the STOP Surprise Medical Bills Act, legislation Cassidy introduced with the Bipartisan Senate Surprise Medical Billing Working Group that now has the support of 27 senators.

“Our Senate bipartisan working group first proposed an independent dispute resolution process (IDR) in our STOP Surprise Medical Bills Act as a way to protect patients,” said Dr. Cassidy. “The House is taking a step in the right direction by including an IDR process. We need to end up in a place that gives patients security while having a level playing field for providers, hospitals and insurers.”
