Senate Passes Cassidy-Supported Resolution to Condemn Threats Against HBCUs

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) applauded the Senate passage of a bipartisan resolution to condemn recent bomb threats towards Historically-Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and reaffirm the duty of the federal government to protect college students, faculty, staff against acts of violence. This resolution, introduced by Senators Tim Scott (R-SC) and Chris Coons (D-DE), is in response to multiple bomb threats this year directed towards HBCUs, including Xavier University of Louisiana.

“Violence and racism against HBCUs have no place in our society and must be condemned. No student, professor, or faculty member should feel unsafe at their school or workplace. Proud to join the entire Senate to show our support for Xavier, Dillard, Southern University, and HBCUs across the country,” said Dr. Cassidy. 

On February 8thCassidy met with Xavier President Reynold Verret where they discussed the threats against Xavier and updates on the federal investigation.
