Cassidy Announces $11.2 Million for Flood Mitigation in Jefferson Parish

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today announced the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is granting $11,213,635.39 through four grants for flood mitigation in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. These grants will fund the elevation of 69 structures in flood prone areas. According to FEMA, elevating these structures will reduce future flood damage caused by natural disaster.

“Making sure Louisiana is prepared for the next storm means taking steps to prevent future loss and damage,” said Dr. Cassidy. “These grants are a welcome investment in flood mitigation and help fortify homes in Jefferson Parish.”

Lafitte Pre-Disaster Mitigation Project

This grant will fund the elevation of 14 NFIP insured flood prone structures in the cities of Lafitte and Barataria within Jefferson Parish of Louisiana to prevent future damages and reduce NFIP claims.

Jefferson Parish Resilient Mitigation – Elevation 

This grant will fund the elevation of 40 structures in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The project will elevate structures to two feet above the base flood elevation. The project work includes site preparation for the elevation, contract review, design, permitting, elevation of the structures, post-elevation inspections and cleanup, project closeout, and grant closeout. Elevation of these structures will reduce future flood loss and National Flood Insurance Program payments.

Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Management Costs

This grant will fund management costs for the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.

Jefferson Parish Resilient Mitigation – Reconstruction

This grant will fund the mitigation reconstruction of 15 structures in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The project includes the partial demolition then reconstruction of an improved, elevated building at 2 feet above the base flood elevation.
