Cassidy Attends Department of Education, Dyslexia Roundtable

Today, as part of National Dyslexia Awareness Month, US Senator Bill Cassidy, MD (R-LA) attended a dyslexia roundtable hosted by US Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. The roundtable included parents and advocates, as well as Dr. Laura Cassidy, to discuss how the Department of Education can best serve children with dyslexia.

“One in five Americans has dyslexia. With universal screening in kindergarten and first grade, and proper evidence based instruction, each student can have what they need to succeed,” said Senator Cassidy. “We appreciate Secretary DeVos for hosting this roundtable and the Trump administration for helping increase awareness on this issue.”

In September, Cassidy introduced the bipartisan S.Res.284, designating October 2017 as National Dyslexia Awareness Month. The resolution passed the senate earlier this month. Read the resolution here.

Earlier this month, President Trump released a statement on Dyslexia Awareness Month. You can read that message here.
