Cassidy: It’s Refreshing to Have an Administration that Listens on GOMESA

WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, released the following statement regarding the president’s Fiscal Year 2019 budget proposal, which preserves the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) offshore revenue sharing program. The administration previously proposed eliminating GOMESA revenue sharing.

“GOMESA funding for Louisiana coastal restoration projects is vital for our nation’s economic and energy security, and we made that clear to Secretary Zinke when he visited our state in December,” said Dr. Cassidy. “I’m glad the administration heard us loud and clear and decided to support offshore revenue sharing. After years of our concerns falling on deaf ears, it’s refreshing to have an administration that actually listens on GOMESA. I look forward to working with the president to streamline the permitting process so these important restoration projects can be completed as soon as possible.”

Cassidy spearheaded the inclusion of a provision in the tax reform legislation President Trump signed into law in December that increases revenue sharing for Gulf states.
