Cassidy: New Orleans City Council’s BDS Measure is Rooted in Anti-Semitism, Hatred of Israel

WASHINGTON— U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) released the following statement after the New Orleans City Council passed a boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) resolution drafted by the Palestinian Solidarity Committee to discriminate against Israel:

“This measure is rooted in anti-Semitism and hatred of Israel. This measure stands in solidarity with a Palestinian government that routinely sponsors and encourages terrorism. I hope the council recognizes their error and reverses this misguided decision.”

Cassidy is one of 51 cosponsors of the Israel Anti-Boycott Act (S. 720), a bipartisan bill that seeks to counter the anti-Israel boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement. As Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) has stated, “this bill does not limit the rights of American citizens or organizations to express their views on Israeli or American foreign policy.”
