Cassidy Slams Democrats’ Attempt to Hold Louisiana Disaster Victims Hostage, Demands Clean Relief Bill

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today slammed Senate Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for sabotaging the disaster supplemental by attaching a debt limit increase to fund Democrats reckless tax and spending agenda. Cassidy joined Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) in voting against Democrats attempt to exploit Louisiana disaster victims. He demanded that Senate Democrats put a clean disaster relief and continuing resolution up for a vote, which would pass with overwhelming bipartisan support.

“Louisiana’s hurricane victims need relief now. Senator Schumer knowingly doomed this bill to failure by holding our state’s disaster recovery hostage for the Left’s agenda. For the sake of Hurricane Ida victims, Congress must pass a clean disaster recovery bill immediately,” said Dr. Cassidy.

Cassidy spoke on the Senate Floor this evening to ask for Unanimous Consent passage of a continuing resolution that includes funding for disaster relief, the National Flood Insurance Program, Israel’s Iron Dome, and keeping the government open. Democrats blocked that resolution.
