Cassidy To Chair Energy and Natural Resources Subcommittee

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy announced he will be Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Subcommittee on National Parks. He will serve on the following subcommittees:

Energy and Natural Resources Committee

  • National Parks, Chairman

  • Energy

  • Public Lands, Forests, and Mining

Health Education Labor and Pensions (HELP)

  • Primary Health and Aging

  • Children and Families

  • Employment and Workplace Safety

Appropriations

  • Homeland Security

  • Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies

  • Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies

  • Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies

As Chair of the Subcommittee, Dr. Cassidy will oversee a variety of national parks and preservation systems, and the Land Water Conservation Fund. An authorized level of $900 million accumulated from oil and gas leases on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) are put into the fund every year. This is used to create and protect national land and to provide matching grants for state and local parks and recreation projects.

Dr. Cassidy issued the following statement:

“These subcommittees tackle issues that are important to Louisiana families, businesses and workers. Chairing a subcommittee on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee will help drive these and other efforts home. Oversight of the Land Water Conservation Fund specifically will help ensure money is appropriately allocated to help conserve and preserve our natural resources.”

Dr. Cassidy is a member of the Energy and Natural Resources, HELP, Veterans’ Affairs, Appropriations and Joint Economic Committees.
