WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) penned an op-ed in State Affairs highlighting his strong support for the SAVE America Act. He also emphasized the need to protect the integrity of American elections by verifying citizenship before registering to vote and urged the U.S. Senate to pass the legislation.
“The right to vote is sacred, and it belongs to American citizens,” wrote Dr. Cassidy.
“The SAVE America Act is simple, reasonable, and widely supported. Democrats demand ID to buy a gun, but they won’t require it to cast a vote. It’s time to stop the hypocrisy. Pass the SAVE America Act and protect the American people’s right to vote,” concluded Dr. Cassidy.

Americans Want the SAVE America Act
The right to vote is sacred, and it belongs to American citizens.
…
Polling shows that over 80 percent of U.S. adults support requiring a photo ID to vote. The American people are speaking clearly on this issue. Democrats know their constituents support verifying citizenship to vote, yet party leaders are choosing to ignore them. If 80 percent of Americans back this common-sense measure, then we should have at least 80 votes in the Senate to support this bill. Therefore, inaction isn’t about public opposition; it’s about appeasing a small, fringe left-wing base.
…
Our constitutional republic was founded on the principle that every lawful vote should count, and no unlawful vote should dilute the voices of American citizens. The SAVE America Act is simple, reasonable, and widely supported. Democrats demand ID to buy a gun, but they won’t require it to cast a vote. It’s time to stop the hypocrisy. Pass the SAVE America Act and protect the American people’s right to vote.
