Cassidy Announces $207.3 Million for Louisiana for Flood Mitigation from his Infrastructure Law

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) announced Louisiana will receive $207,331,570.00 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in Flood Mitigation Assistance grants and Building Resilient Infrastructures and Communities (BRIC) grants.

“The best way to recover from a storm, is never to flood at all and this resilience building is what the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act was created for,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This funding invests in mitigation to protect our communities, give families peace of mind, and significantly reduce the risk of flooding in the future.”

These projects have been selected by FEMA for further review and will receive funding once they pass all eligibility reviews, which include benefit cost analysis, technical feasibility, and environmental and historic preservation reviews.

Cassidy worked to secure $3.5 billion in Flood Mitigation Assistance grants and $1 billion for BRIC grants in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). This funding was included to reduce or eliminate the risk of repetitive flood damage to buildings insured by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). In Fiscal Year 2020, one-third of applications for this program came from Louisiana. Louisiana can expect to receive further flood mitigation funding from IIJA over the next three years.
