BATON ROUGE – On Wednesday, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) visited Tangipahoa Parish to promote President Donald Trump’s One, Big, Beautiful Bill. He first addressed the Tangipahoa Chamber of Commerce, discussing how the One, Big, Beautiful Bill will support small businesses.

“The One, Big, Beautiful Bill was written with businesses and workers in mind,” said Dr. Cassidy. “We’re making it easier for Tangipahoa’s job creators to do what they do best, while letting workers keep more of what they earn.”
The One, Big, Beautiful Bill makes permanent tax relief from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 that lowers rates and allows businesses to deduct capital expenses. Additionally, most workers will see taxes on tips and overtime work eliminated, and most senior citizens will be relieved of having to pay Social Security taxes.
Cassidy has also worked to secure funds for Tangipahoa Parish from his Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), and the appropriations process. In May, Cassidy announced that the City of Hammond will receive $84,000 from the IIJA to rehabilitate 36,000 feet of taxiways and 640 square feet of the terminal apron at the Hammond Northshore Regional Airport. Additionally, Cassidy has inserted $5 million in the Senate FY 2026 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill to support the Airport Road and Highway 3158 roundabout project.

Cassidy was introduced at the Chamber breakfast by Ms. Melissa Bordelon, President and CEO of the Tangipahoa Chamber.
“Tangipahoa Chamber business leaders appreciated the chance to hear directly from U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy as he shared updates and perspectives on issues impacting our parish, our state, and our nation,” said Ms. Bordelon. “Hearing directly from policymakers helps our members stay informed about federal issues that influence the business environment here at home.”
Later, Cassidy visited C&W Wholesale, a food supplier for restaurants, schools and cafeterias across Louisiana and Mississippi, to tour their new facility and learn how they’re benefiting from the One, Big, Beautiful Bill.
“S&W Foods turned an idea into a legacy,” said Dr. Cassidy. “That’s why President Trump and I are working together to give Louisianans the tools they need to continue building the success of their businesses.”
Among other provisions in the One, Big, Beautiful Bill was a proposal to allow certain small businesses to deduct 20% of their qualified business income off their tax returns. This makes it easier for businesses to grow and hire workers. C&W Wholesale directly benefits from this provision.

Currently, S&W Wholesale has 125 full-time employees, and was able to serve their customers the first day after both Hurricanes Katrina and Ida. They moved into their new facility last November, which has four times the capacity of their previous facility, and are the largest Louisiana-owned restaurant supplier in the state. Their Chief Executive Officer Paul Spalitta guided Cassidy through the facility.
“Louisiana’s restaurants and hospitality businesses are the backbone of our communities, and they rely on a strong, reliable supply chain to succeed,” said Mr. Spalitta. “We appreciate Senator Cassidy taking the time to tour S&W’s new Hammond headquarters and hear directly from us about the challenges our industry is facing. His support helps ensure independent operators across Louisiana can continue serving the meals and experiences that bring people together.”
