Chair Cassidy, Republican Colleagues Urge Governors to Opt-In to Trump-Backed School Choice Program

WASHINGTON– U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) sent letters urging states to opt-in to the upcoming federal school choice scholarship tax credit. In July, President Trump signed Cassidy’s Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA) as a part of the Working Families Tax Cut bill to authorize this program.

“This innovative credit will unlock billions of private dollars to fund scholarships for K-12 students across the country, including in your state,” said the members.

“Each of these scholarships could improve a child’s trajectory, open new opportunities, and strengthen your state’s educational outcomes and future workforce. We urge you to act quickly to ensure students can benefit from this tax credit from day one and dollars donated to your state remain in the state,” continued the members.

Cassidy was joined by U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) and U.S. Representatives Adrian Smith (R-NE-03), Burgess Owens (R-UT-04), and Tim Walberg (R-MI-07) in sending the letter.
