BATON ROUGE – Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 15, the NFL Network will air a special episode of NFL 360 with Melissa Stark highlighting New Orleans Saints icon Steve Gleason’s battle with ALS, his work to empower others with the disease, and U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy’s successful effort to pass legislation honoring Gleason with the Congressional Gold Medal.

After the Senate passed Cassidy’s legislation in April 2018, the NFL Network filmed the senator behind the scenes in New Orleans and Washington, D.C., as he fought to build support for the legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“This episode is a moving tribute to Steve and the lives he has touched through his incredible work,” said Dr. Cassidy. “The NFL Network did a superb job capturing the legislative process as it developed and I hope folks will tune in Tuesday night to watch this exclusive look behind the scenes.”

The Congressional Gold Medal is the highest civilian honor Congress can bestow, and Gleason will be the first NFL player in history to receive the medal. Previous recipients include Thomas Edison, Roberto Clemente, Joe Louis, Jesse Owens, Mother Teresa, Rosa Parks, and Jackie Robinson.

An official ceremony to present Gleason with the medal will be held later this year.
